Hoşgeldin

Welcome to my blog! I am in my sixth year of teaching art at an international school in Istanbul, Turkey. Join with me in my adventures of living in a foreign country, traveling and teaching art!

I am embarking on an adventure…

For those of you I have not seen in a while, I have had a whirlwind past month and year. September 2012, I moved to Vancouver, British Columbia for a 12 month Bachelor of Education program at UBC. I was a bit apprehensive at first, not knowing if teaching was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, but it turns out, I love teaching what I am passionate about… ART!

I had an interview with a sending organization in August, the same week I finished school. Since it was so late in the year and school was just around the corner, I was given two options. Wait until next year for a potential school opening, or… there was an opening for a K-12 art teacher at an international school in Turkey. I was pretty excited.

Little did they know, Turkey has been on my heart as a place I have wanted to go for such a long time, and… teaching art is what I do best! Never mind that I had never taught elementary before, I was very willing to try! A week later, during a visit home, I had another interview; this time with the school.  I was offered the job, which I wholeheartedly accepted. Instead of returning to Vancouver to stay, I ended up packing up everything and within a month I was here! Everything came together so perfectly, I know this is where God wants me to be.

I never imagined I would be here this long. I feel privileged to be in a place where I feel needed; in a job that He has prepared me for, where my gifts and talents are used daily. Each year has been different than the one previous, with a LOT of growing and new challenges.
